Assignment 5- A jingle Written by Addy and I to remember the elements of art.
Silly (Shape) Sam (Space) Cries (Color) For (Form) The (Texture) Violet (Value) Lizards (Line)
Assignment 1-Zentangle
This activity made me more interested in patterns and overlapping. The art form also has basic elements of repetition and also size, as you must choose how many times a certain shape is repeated and then how big you want to make said shape. I like this activity because you were not required to have an eraser nearby if you made a mistake. In fact, some of my most favorite patterns came from mistakes! I really enjoyed doing this, and I hope I get to do it again soon!

Project 1- Modified Gyotaku Print
For this print, I definitely made use of the cool color scheme. I absolutely love the cool colors, and I thought it would go well with fish since they are always in the water. It makes me feel almost as if I am seeing the fish from underwater!
First, I took the model fish and put blue watercolors on it. I mixed a little bit of purple in as well, so it was not just blue. I then made sure it was not too wet and carefully placed the paper over the fish. Next, I rubbed the surface of the paper (the 'furry' side) on the fish to make a print. After letting it dry, I went through the process of hi lighting the fish with colors using colored pencils, putting on the rice paste, and ultimately placing the fish print on a piece of rice paper and then slathering it onto a wooden board. I then cut it off later using a knife. Sadly, however, the print was mounted backwards. However, I was pleased as it gave the fish a more "dead" look (as it should).
Because printing and pasting isn't my favorite, I really did not feel that enthusiastic about this project. Had we used real fish I might have been more involved, but since we didn't my feelings for printing and pasting did not change. I did mess up by not pasting the fish on the right side, but it still looks nice (I did not want it to turn out that bright, so maybe this is a good mistake?)
I am usually self-sufficient in art class and can get materials by myself (that is, if I know where they are). I can also pretty much learn how to do something in class after a couple of tries. A few examples of my self-direction is getting the appropriate pencils, my sketchbook, and other needed materials before class starts. I am also never really late to class unless I have a valid reason.

Assignment 8- The Color Wheel and Triads
There are many classifications for colors. As shown in the diagram above, the primary colors are red, blue, and yellow, and the secondary colors are green, orange, and purple. Also, you can see the colors ranging (left) from red to yellow are warm colors and the colors ranging (right) from green to purple are cool colors. Colors directly across form each other are called complimentary colors (for example, purple and yellow). Colors that are next to each other are called analogous colors (such as purple and blue). Finally, the colors that are not blatantly primary or secondary are the intermediate colors (they are labeled tertiary on the chart above). These colors are blends between primary and secondary colors.
Here is a more complex color wheel.
Triad color schemes are three colors that form a triangle on the color wheel. In the first diagram, you can see two triangles connecting a set of three colors (for example, all the primary colors are a triad and the same goes for the secondary colors). These triads are the basic components of all color schemes, and they all have many colors derived from them

Assignment 10- Realistic Graphite Drawing
Assignment 11- Watercolor Painting of Family
Assignment 12- Drawing of my Favorite Animal- A Whale!
Assignment 13- Marble (It almost looks like sherbet!)
Assignment 14- Japanese Stab Binding- Simple Stitch
To make this book, I first had to marble two sheets of watercolor paper. I used a color scheme of red (it appears pink), blue, and green. After making the marbles, I put 5 folded signatures between the marbles and then used a handmade ruler to place 5 holes down the spine proportionally. After marking the holes, Mrs. Tomboulian helped me to actually puncture the papers. After this, I followed a normal threading pattern and was able to bind the book.
I learned in this activity how to accurately use a needle and thread. I've had to sew once before, but i was not to this extent. I'm glad I was able to take part in this activity!

Assignment 15- Japanese Stab Binding- Tortoise Stitch
To make this book, I used the same method as I did with the normal book. However, this time I made four holes on the top with eight holes below (two holes corresponded with one hole above it). I then used a stitching method similar to the one I used with the normal book binding, except I had more are to cover (thus I needed more thread to do it). Still, I used the same measurement of marble sheets as well as 5 signatures for filler paper.
Making this book was a little more complicated than making the normal book. It required a lot of time and also it was much more difficult to try and get the front and back covers to match color schemes (I used black and blue this time). The binding also became loose easily, but I was still able to complete the assignment. I also learned how to thread with more string, as I needed a significantly smaller amount when binding the normal book.

Assignment 16- High Contrast Self-Portrait
Assignment 17- High Contrast Self-Portrait with Yearbook Photo Collage
Assignment 18- Canvas Painting- Sirius
This was my final, and also most enjoyable, assignment in art. I was able to paint whatever I wanted, and I saw it fit to paint a galaxy-like image. This piece was inspired by my dear friend Makenna, whom I will never forget. It almost looks like a nebula after a super nova, but it appropriately named Sirius for its bright, metallic tones (Sirius is the brightest star known to man). I have loved this year's art class, and it pains me to leave everyone behind. But like the explosion of the star in the painting, my departure will surely lead me to a brighter future.
